Our Family
Shortly after marrying, we became expectant parents! We were so excited by this news and couldn't wait to have a family.

At a routine doctor's visit, we received life-changing news. Our sweet baby girl had a birth defect that was not compatible with life. We spent the rest of the pregnancy making memories with her and enjoying the time we had together. In June of 2018, we welcomed Sofia into the world as a stillborn infant - but so precious and so loved!

We spent the next few years honoring Sofia, praying for guidance, and searching for possible causes of her birth defect. Despite many doctor visits and lots of medical testing, the doctors could not identify the cause. We were told that her birth defect was rare and that it was not a result of anything we had or had not done. It was likely that a second pregnancy would have a good outcome.

We soon learned that God blessed us with another baby - this time, a little boy. Yet early in the pregnancy, our doctors identified a similar condition in baby Isaac that was also not compatible with life. Isaac was born in October of 2021 and was able to come home with us. He passed away peacefully in Mark's arms at 44 hours old.

The prevention and cause of Sofia and Isaac's conditions are still being researched. Our chances of a third baby with the same condition are higher than an average couple; the exact risk is unknown. We hope that research will continue and that maybe one day, families won't experience the pain of losing a child to this condition.

We miss our babies every day and hope for the day that we'll see them again! We have spent time discerning what God might be calling us to do and have decided to grow our family through infant adoption. We both feel grateful for the opportunity to adopt, and we can't wait to welcome a little one into our home!
